“Excuse me. I’m so sorry to wake you, but it’s time to take your meds.”

Trey slowly opened his eyes and grunted as he felt the soreness of his body.

“Okay,” he replied.

“What’s your name?” asked the nurse.

“Trevor. Trevor Dukes,” he replied.

“Thank you. Here ya go,” she said and handed him a small cup that contained medication.

“What is this for again?” asked Trey.

“It’s for the pain. Your body has been through a lot,” she explained.

“Yeah, tell me about it. Did the results come back for the tests that they ran on me?” he asked.

“Yeah. The doctor will be coming to speak with you soon,” she replied.

“Okay, but he mentioned that there was blood in my urine, so am I okay?” he asked with concern.

“Well, all I can say is that your kidney is bruised, but the doctor will be in soon. I just saw him before I came in to give you your meds. He’ll be here in a minute or two,” she explained.

As she spoke, the doctor walked into the room to speak with Trey.

“Mr. Trevor. How are you feeling today?” the doctor asked.

“Not as good as I look, doc,” Trey replied.

“Considering that you don’t look that good, I would take that as you don’t feel well at all.” He chuckled.

“And the winner is…Dr. Obvious. Nurse Ratchet, please tell him what he’s won,” Trey joked.

“Glad to see your sense of humor is alive and well.” The doctor chuckled.

“Yeah, I suppose. But I’m in pain, doc. Everything hurts. Especially my shoulder and arm,” Trey explained.

“Well, that’s to be expected. You’ve been through quite the ordeal, sir. You have a concussion, a separated shoulder, a bruised kidney, and most of your body is bruised and swollen,” explained the doctor.

“So, what are the tests showing? Will I be able to go home soon?” asked Trey.

“All the tests are negative. So, all you can do at this point is rest. I haven’t released you yet because you still have blood in your urine, and I would like to take another day or two in order to make sure that it clears up as I suspect it will.”

“But I’ve already been here for two days as it is,” Trey complained.

“Yeah, I know, but it’s for the best. That said, anything else I can do for you? Anything you need?”

“Am I able to take a shower?” asked Trey.

“Sure. Do you think you can manage that on your own?” asked the doctor.

“Umm, not sure, but I really want to wash myself.”

“Nurse Maggie, can we send for an aide who can help Mr. Dukes with getting cleaned up a bit?” asked the doctor.

“Sure, doctor. I’ll have someone come in and help him,” the nurse replied.

“Thanks, doc. I appreciate that,” Trey replied graciously.

“Okay, in the meantime, remember, get some rest, and I’ll be back to check on you tomorrow.”

“Thanks again, doc,” he replied as the doctor walked out of his room.

The nurse left shortly after and looked to find an aide to assist Trey with getting cleaned up.

“Do we have any available aids at the moment?” asked Maggie as she approached the nurses’ station.
